Abstract. Bald cypress (Taxodium distichum (L.) Rich.) was grown on a substrate of highmoor peat and pine bark (1:1, v:v) with varying pH. It was shown that sustrate with pH = 5.5 was most advantageous for the cultivation.

Summary
In 2005 at the Department of Dendrology and Nursery Science, August Cieszkowski Agricultural University of Poznań an experiment was conducted on bald cypress (Taxodium distichum (L.) Rich). Seedlings were grown in the substrate of highmoor peat and pine bark (1:1, v:v) with varied pH. The pH value ≥ 4.5 (control) and 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5 was monitored by adding 0, 1.3, 2.3, 3.5 and 6.0 g·dm-3 CaCO3 of substrate. During the cultivation the plant height was measured twice. The results indicated that substrate with pH 5.5 was the best for the cultivation of bald cypress.
